There are many things that I love doing, but there are at least three things that I could consider to be hobbies, and that’s writing, reading, and playing my guitar.
I was fourteen years old when I first began to have an interest in poetry. It was my oldest sister who was already published that got me interested. I looked at the things she wrote and decided that one day I would have my own poetry published. I began to write my own poetry in grade seven when my teacher had us doing the poetry unit. Unlike all the years before, this year I didn’t stop writing when the unit was over. I started looking at everything in a new way, there was always a poem waiting to be written. There was always something waiting to inspire me.
Reading
There is not much that I enjoy more than a good book on a rainy day. I have had a passion for books ever since I could read. I still love the way a good book is able to take me away from reality and take me to another world. For me, reading is not just picking up a book, it’s getting into the book. I love to make myself feel as though I am a part of the book, that is when I enjoy reading the most.
Playing Guitar
I was about fifteen when a friend of mine offered to give me guitar lessons for free every Sunday before Church. I jumped at the chance to learn something I had only dreamt of before. I went to every lesson with an eagerness to learn, but there was the simple fact that I did not have my own guitar, I borrowed my youth leader’s guitar. That same Christmas, I came home one day to find a guitar in my bed. I have had that guitar for over three years now, and I am still learning new things.

Ah. You play guitar as well. That’s very cool. I have been playing the guitar for about 3-4 years. My next goal is to learn the piano.

I have always wanted to play the piano, I even taught myself some siple songs at one point but I never kept it up. Even though we have an organ at home I still don’t play a lot. I’m much too occupied with my guitar and my trumpet. (I’ve played the trupet since grade six, so almost six years.) Good luck with the piano.

You play guitar? That is so cool. I’ve always wanted to learn that… or flute… I do play piano though. *grins* My great interests in life are probably also books, writing and my piano. Also, computers. And rainstorms. *grins*

I like this quote. Reading is indeed able to take you away from reality and to another world, but it also has the power to give you a wider perspective of reality, including the reality of other people in various parts of the world who may be living very different lives than you, and thus to give you a deeper understanding of our own world. And if you really get ‘into a book’, as you say, you can learn all sorts of things. I’m glad to hear you really like to engage (get into) literature. Keep it up!
Remember what we discussed earlier today about reading as well? The more you read, the better your writing will also become. You can absorb not only the stories, but also the various tricks, techniques and styles used. Great start, by the way.
